The membership and billing terms apply once you add a card and become a member.

These are the terms between you and Stephen Barton, doing business as Know Them Well, Oklahoma, for using this app. Plain words on purpose. If something here is unclear, ask before you rely on it.

What the app is

A private map of the people you know, with a calendar, a list, a game for filling in gaps, and an assistant that drafts. It is a tool for remembering and for bringing people together.

Your account

• You must be 16 or older.
• Keep your sign‑in private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
• One account per person. Accounts are for people, not for companies or bots.

What you record about others

You own what you write, and you are responsible for it. Record only what is true and what you would be comfortable with the person reading. Do not use the app to track, monitor, harass, stalk, or intimidate anyone, or to store information you have no right to hold. We may close accounts that do.

If a person asks us to correct or remove something recorded about them, we may remove it.

Sharing and introductions

Introductions are drafted by the app and sent by you, from your own phone.

The request board

What you post on the request board is seen by other members, without your name. Abusive, hateful, sexual or threatening posts are not allowed. We take them down when we find them, and we may close the account of anyone who posts them. You can report a post or hide everything from the person who wrote it, right on the post, or write to hello@knowthemwell.com.

The assistant

The assistant can be wrong. It drafts and proposes; you confirm. Do not treat its output as advice.

Your free month

• Every new member gets one month free, starting the day they join. It includes everything, the assistant too.
• You add a card when you join. Nothing is charged during your free month. When it ends, your membership renews monthly at your price until you cancel, and you can cancel anytime on the website before then to pay nothing.
• You, under Membership, shows the day your free month ends.

Membership

• After the free month, a membership keeps the app going. It renews every month until you cancel.
• Price. Membership is $30 a month. The first 100 people to start a membership are founding members and pay $20 a month instead. A founding spot is claimed when you add a card and agree to the founding rate. If you cancel, or your card fails, before your first charge, the spot goes back to the pool. The site shows how many founding spots are left.
• The founding rate is locked in. We won't raise a founding member's $20 monthly price for as long as their membership continues without a break. If the membership ends, because you cancel or because a payment fails and isn't fixed, the founding rate ends with it, and if you join again you pay the price at that time. Any sales tax we're required to charge is added on top and isn't covered by the lock.
• You become a member on our website, knowthemwell.com, and pay through Stripe. The iPhone app doesn't sell memberships and takes no payments.
• If you become a member during your free month, the first charge comes on the day the free month ends, not the day you sign up. If less than two days of your free month are left, the first charge comes that day.
• You can cancel any time on the website, at knowthemwell.com/account. Cancelling stops the next charge, and your membership runs to the end of the month you've paid for. It does not refund the current month.
• If a payment fails, Stripe tries the card again for a while, and you keep full use of the app while it does. If the payment still doesn't go through, your account becomes read-only, as described below.
• Price changes. Except for the founding rate, we'll email you at least 30 days before a price change takes effect, and you can cancel before it does.

When the free month ends without a membership

• Your map is kept, with everyone and everything you wrote. Nothing is deleted.
• You can still sign in, look through your map, and download it from You, under Membership, with "Download my map". The download is one file with your people, the lines between them, your history and dates, your profile, and your chats with the assistant. Photos aren't in the file, only a link to each one.
• You can't add or change anything until you become a member. Once you do, everything works again.
• You can close your account at any time. Closing deletes everything, as below.

Your data

You can download your map at any time, and delete your account at any time from You, under Membership, in the iPhone app or on the website. Everything is deleted 45 days after you ask, except the records our privacy page lists. You can change your mind by signing in before then.

When you close your account, any membership is cancelled at once so it won't renew. What you have already paid for runs to the end of its month, and the current month isn't refunded. Nothing more is charged after that. If you sign in and keep your account within the 45 days, a membership that closing stopped carries on.

The iPhone app

If you use the iPhone app, Apple's standard licence for apps from the App Store, the Licensed Application End User License Agreement, applies alongside these terms. Apple has no part in providing the service, supporting it, or your membership, which is between you and us. Memberships aren't sold through Apple, so Apple can't refund or cancel them. Cancel on our website, as above.

Ending things

You can leave whenever you like. We can close an account that breaks these terms or the law, with notice where we reasonably can. If we close your account, we refund any unused paid time and give you a chance to download your map first, unless the law stops us.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the date at the top changes. If a change matters to your membership or your data, we will tell you by email before it takes effect.

What we do not promise

The app is provided as it is. We do not guarantee it will always be available or error-free. To the extent the law allows, our liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Oklahoma, United States. The app is offered to people in the United States.
